The Next Step in the SMT Process: Pick and Place
You've seen the overview, along with the solder paste, and now onto debatably the most interesting part of the SMT process. The pick-and-place process highlights the intricacy of the machine that takes all the components and places them into the correct position on the circuit board. In the video, you'll see the machine in action, as well as the fail-safes to make sure the machine is getting the correct piece in the correct place. This is all made possible by the first step in the process with the solder paste application, with the stencils ensuring the proper solder placement. If you haven't seen the solder paste application or the overview of the technology make sure to go back and chec...

Loudspeaker Design: Anechoic Chamber VS. Listening Room
Просмотров 8654 месяца назад
In the realm of loudspeaker design, there has been a suggestion from an industry insider that designing loudspeakers in a listening room, rather than an anechoic chamber, could be advantageous. However, this notion lacks practicality due to the inherent variability of individual listening environments, whereas an anechoic chamber provides a standardized baseline unaffected by room influences. T...

With the acquisition of Bryston and Magnum Dynalab the Axiom Audio factory has been bringing tons of additional capabilities in-house, one of those being SMT. SMT is an acronym for Surface Mount Technology, this will allow for all circuit boards to be made in-house and streamline the process. This is not a new technology, it was initially developed in the 60's and still in its infancy in the 80...
Struggling to Hear Voice Dialogue? Netflix Answered the Request

Do you ever have trouble hearing the dialogue in movies on your home theater system? Well, we made a video last year taking a look at this issue, and since then, Netflix has added this as a feature. As of right now, we only know of this feature on the Netflix App, but hopefully, ...

No respect with Center channels here. Take that money and put them into L and R and of course you have to set up the L and R properly. Time to tell the reality. Center channel is for one thing and one thing only. If you have to sit well off axis then you need to lock that speech to the screen. Not worried about then dump the center and you will be much happier.

The ultimate nearfield listening experience has to be, headphones. In my lounge I have a pair of substantial floorstanders. 9.5 feet apart. My listening position is 11.5 feet from my floorstanders. In my office I have a small pair of active speakers, sat either side of my 24 inch pc monitor. I sit at arm’s length from these speakers. I class that as nearfield listening and they sound phenomenal with a surprisingly wide soundstage.

I’m unquestionably a purest. That’s how I was indoctrinated into the audiophile world. I’m also a minimalist, a prime advocate of the signal path being kept as short and uncluttered as feasible. In recent years all my family have left home to start their own families. I’ve also become mortgage free. So, I’ve now got more disposable income than I’ve ever had. I’ve seriously upgraded my hi-fi. In so doing, I’ve rigidly adhered to my purest/minimalist principles. Well mastered/recorded music is reproduced beautifully by my upgraded hi-fi. Poorly mastered/recorded music sounds exactly that, poorly recorded, often unlistenable. So, I’m actually ashamed/embarrassed to admit, I’ve placed an order for an equaliser. It’s due to arrive at the dealer in around 6 weeks, so September 2024! I’ll let you know my verdict.

Interesting stuff, thanks Andrew. It's so far on from my 1980s job of testing and burning in 15" square circuit boards from an outside vendor. Test stuff in a physics lab, hand built. One step was checking polarity of some capacitors before powering up the board. I missed backwards one and got a loud smelly kapow shortly after.

I have a Yamaha RX-A4A and a Yamaha A-S1100 integrated amp, and recently bought a BK-sub. The sub has no hum whatsoever with nothing in it. However, as soon as I connect any cables from my amps to the sub, some noise is always heard. I tried disconnecting the cables from the amps but leaving in the subwoofer and then it's like the first situation, absolutely no hum. So it's not the subwoofer. I then tried to connect SOLELY the RCA sub out to the subwoofer with NOTHING else connected to the receiver, and the LFE-low level input still hums very faintly but only if I put the gain to 100% and in bypass mode. All of this tested with all amps in the same power outlet. I literally tried everything, and nothing seems to work. I tried a RCA ground loop isolator on the sub's RCA cable and that made the hum even louder. Either my receiver is faulty (even though through the main-in coupled with the integrated, I don't have noise coming from the main speakers), or there's something else entirely.

Hi, I'm your new suscriber. I know this is not subject...But I'm little bit confused. I'm buying my first hi fi setup. Simple 2.0. I decided to buy new Rotel A11 mk2 AB amplifier 50w at 8ohms and 62w at 4ohms. Speakers Dynaudio Emit 10 and its writen in the specs 6ohms speaker IEC power handling 150w. I will put this relativly small bookshelf speakers in my bedroom with 16 square meters and I will listen from distance of 2.5meters. I will listen on moderate to low volumes, rock and metal I will cranck litle bit stronger but thats it. Is this amp enough for my speakers. I see on youtube reviewers put this rotel with much larger speakers and they said that is great sound. My seller told me that I need much more wats for this speaker to sound properly even 100w even with small volumes to give some juice to speaker. Now I'm tot aly confused. Can you pleasre you can help me I was so hapy to purchace this setup..now...thanks in advance

Most records sound great as-is with the volume down, but IME when you turn up past a certain level, the vocals quickly get harsh. So when I want to crank it I turn on the EQ, which is set with a 2-3 dB cut in the 1K and 2K bands and a VERY small boost to the 40Hz and 80Hz bands. Never boost more than 2 dB. If you want to boost higher, cut everything else instead. If you've EQ'd correctly, the result will be quieter than with it off. But that's what your receiver's volume control is for.

Very interesting. The reason I don't like narrow, tall speakers with an array of drivers for the same frequency range is that they produce interference patterns and consequently have terrible vertical dispersion patterns. I will always choose eg. a single 12" woofer over two 8" woofers (one above the other). Multiple midranges or tweeters is even worse.

Most of my music listening is through headphones simply because I'm at work. When I get back home I listen through speakers but by the time I get home I'm in a different mood so my listening is not attentive. On weekends and days off Im always through speakers. For me, speakers are the natural normal way to listen to music. For me, headphones are a necessity, not a preference. I listen through headphones at office simply because I have no choice. That doesn't mean I don't like headphones. I do, in fact I think only headphones can give you great 3D experience. I think even cheap headphones can give you image. However, I see no point of using headphones at home. Even at night I just turn down volume but still I'm using speakers

I also suffer from subwoofer hum. I did find how to get it to stop, but don't know what to do next. I have an HDMI cable that goes from my cable box to a Blackbird 4K Pro splitter that has two HDMI outputs, one goes to a 55" tv and the other to my 77" tv. I found that when I disconnect either HDMI output cable, the hum stops. But, if I disconnect the INPUT cable from the cable box, the hum does NOT stop. Is the problem the Blackbird splitter? If so, what do I do about this? Any comments/help would be greatly appreciated.
